Blanca Dumbo (Junior)

The Dumbo — named for the Brooklyn neighborhood, not the elephant, though your kid can decide otherwise — is Blanca Padel's junior racket, sized for players aged five to nine. It's also the only junior racket we've reviewed, because most of what's sold for kids in the US is closer to a beach toy than sports equipment.

That's what makes the Dumbo worth covering. The construction choices are miniature versions of the right ones: a soft EVA foam core that cushions impact for small arms and wrists, and a genuine carbon frame that survives being dropped, dragged, and occasionally thrown. The pearl white finish looks like real equipment because it is real equipment — and kids notice the difference between "my racket" and "a kids' racket" faster than adults think.

Getting equipment right matters more for juniors than for anyone else on this site. A too-heavy adult racket teaches a child compensating habits (and can genuinely hurt developing joints); a mushy toy teaches them nothing at all. A properly scaled racket with a soft core and a big round sweet spot lets kids feel actual contact, actual control, and actual progress.

At $80 it's not impulse-purchase money, and yes, your child will outgrow it — that's what junior sizing means. Treat it like kids' shoes: the cost of doing it right at each stage.
