Blanca La Jolla Rough

The original La Jolla was Blanca Padel's flagship — a straightforward diamond power racket. The La Jolla Rough is what happens when a brand listens to a professional: built to the specifications of their touring pro Julia Polo, it keeps the explosive DNA and files down the rough edges. Pun fully intended.

The recipe starts the same: diamond shape, hard EVA core, 12K carbon fiber face. Then come the Polo-driven changes — slightly lighter overall, balance pulled down from the extreme, and a rough sand-textured surface across the entire face. Each change is small; together they transform the racket. Where the original La Jolla asked you to commit to every swing, the Rough lets you change your mind mid-point.

The texture is the star. Cut serves kick sideways, víboras bite into the glass, and bandejas hold their line instead of floating. If you've been playing smooth-faced rackets, the first session feels like a cheat code — and unlike some rough finishes that wear smooth in a season, sand-in-the-paint textures like this one tend to hold up.

It's still a diamond, so the usual honesty applies: the sweet spot lives high, defensive blocks need active hands, and beginners shouldn't be anywhere near it. We'd also love to see Blanca publish actual weight and balance numbers — "slightly lighter" is doing a lot of work in their spec sheet.

This is Jaime's July pick, and his logic is hard to argue with: at $195 it delivers most of what the $250 Brickell does, in a more classical package, with a pro's fingerprints on the design. If you only try one American racket this year, make it this one.
